Dance Competition in Grand Rapids, MI

Addiction Dance Company is bringing its electrifying regional competition to Grand Rapids, MI. This event offers an unforgettable opportunity for dancers of all ages and levels to perform, grow, and compete in a high-quality, professionally run environment. Divisions & Age Groups

Age Groups
  • Super Mini: 5 & Under

  • Mini: 6–8

  • Junior: 9–10

  • Tween: 11–12

  • Teen: 13–15

  • Senior: 16–19

  • Adult: 20 & Older

  • Teacher: Faculty Members

Performance Divisions
  • Solo (1 dancer)

  • Duet/Trio (2–3 dancers)

  • Small Group (4–9 dancers)

  • Large Group (10–19 dancers)

  • Line (20–39 dancers)

  • Addiction Line (40+ dancers, no theme)

  • Production (15+ dancers, themed performance with props)

Levels of Competition

Dancers are placed in competition levels based on experience and number of routines to maintain balance and fairness.
 

  • Novice: 1–2 years of competition experience, 5 or fewer routines

  • Intermediate: 3–5 years of competition experience

  • Advanced: 6+ years of competition experience

  • Adaptive: For individuals with special needs
     

Group routines may only compete one level below the highest-level dancer in the group. Level adjustments may be made by judges during the event if necessary.

Time Limits and Performance Guidelines

All performances must stay within time limits based on division type. Extended time must be pre-approved.

Standard Time Limits:

  • Solo: 2:45 minutes

  • Duet/Trio: 3:00 minutes

  • Small Group: 3:00 minutes

  • Large Group: 4:00 minutes

  • Line & Addiction Line: 5:00 minutes

  • Production: 6:00 minutes + 5:00 minutes for prop setup/removal
     

Routines must perform in their scheduled order unless an exception is approved. In-performance rehearsals and custom stage lighting are not permitted.

Dance Categories

Routines must be accurately categorized by style to ensure proper adjudication. Every performance is evaluated on technique, artistry, choreography, and overall execution.

 

Available Categories Include:

  • Ballet & Pointe (Pointe not permitted in Novice level)

  • Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern

  • Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Pom-Pon

  • Folk/Ethnic, Clogging, Acro/Gymnastics

  • Open (any combination of styles)

Props and Stage Safety

Studios may use props that enhance performances, provided they follow safety rules and preserve the integrity of the marley flooring.
 

  • No glitter, liquids, or materials that alter the marley floor

  • No live animals, fire, or weapons

  • Production routines must follow time limits for setup and teardown

  • Props must be clearly labeled and removed the same day
     

Studios are fully responsible for cleanup and any stage or flooring damage caused by props.

The Final Countdown Audition Experience

The Final Countdown is a live audition experience available to all dancers. Participants are assigned audition numbers, learn a short routine from an ADC choreographer, and perform it on stage in front of a judging panel. Through a progressive elimination format, the top finalists are selected.
 

Routines that earn high scores at this event are eligible to advance to the ADC National Competition and may be invited to perform in the ADC National Showcase, where top entries compete for Grand Champion awards across multiple age and level divisions.
 

  • Two age brackets: 12 & Under, 13 & Older

  • Top 3 receive merchandise; the winner receives a cash prize

  • Audition numbers are available for purchase at registration

Awards & Nationals Eligibility

All entries receive adjudicated awards (Platinum, Diamond, Double Diamond, etc.). Top regional winners qualify for Nationals, where they may compete in the National Showcase for Grand Champion honors.
 

National Showcase Divisions Include:
 

  • Solos, Duet/Trios, Small Groups, Large Groups/Lines/Productions across Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced levels

  • Special titles: Choreographer of the Year and Studio of the Year

Register for Chicago Today

Registration is now open, and all entries must be submitted online and paid in full to be confirmed. A $10 late fee applies per routine if submitted after the registration deadline. Once processed, all registrations are final.
